FSRU – Floating Storage & Regasification Unit

Integrated Floating LNG Storage & Regasification
An FSRU combines LNG storage and regasification in one floating facility.
LNG is delivered by LNG carriers and transferred to the FSRU, typically through Ship-to-Ship (STS) LNG transfer. LNG is stored and regasified onboard before natural gas is exported through a high-pressure pipeline to shore.

FSU + Onshore Regasification

Floating LNG Storage with Onshore Regasification
An FSU provides LNG storage, while the regasification system is located onshore.
LNG carriers deliver LNG to the FSU through STS transfer. LNG is then transferred from the FSU to shore through a suitable marine LNG transfer system, where it is pumped, regasified, metered and delivered to the gas grid or power plant.

FSU + Offshore Regasification

Floating LNG Storage with Offshore Regasification
An FSU provides floating LNG storage, while a separate offshore facility performs the regasification.
LNG is delivered to the FSU by LNG carriers through STS transfer and subsequently transferred to the offshore regasification facility. Regasified natural gas is transported to shore through a subsea gas pipeline.

Conventional Onshore LNG Terminal

Onshore LNG Storage & Regasification
A conventional LNG terminal receives LNG carriers at a dedicated marine terminal and transfers LNG into large onshore cryogenic storage tanks.
The LNG is subsequently pumped to an onshore regasification system, converted into natural gas, metered and delivered to the transmission grid, power plants or industrial users.

Choosing the Right LNG Regasification Solution
There is no single solution suitable for every LNG project. The optimal architecture depends on LNG demand, storage requirements, marine conditions, water depth, land availability, gas pipeline infrastructure, project schedule, capital investment and long-term operating strategy.
FSRU solutions can provide an integrated floating approach, while FSU-based configurations allow storage and regasification to be developed separately. Conventional onshore terminals provide a permanent, high-capacity solution where the required land and marine infrastructure are available.
